Biggest slum in all of ASIA!

Cows are everywhere in the streets!

Today we went to the school that is located in the biggest slum in Asia! There is more than one million people living in one square mile!!! It was raining like crazy! We got to observe the teachers, ask what they needed from us, and help serve the kiddos lunch! It was a great day. The kids all looked really nice because in order for them to attend school there they have to wear a uniform. (It is provided.) They do not normally look like this. They live in houses with their whole family that are about the size of the inside of a Honda Civic. What was amazing is that even though they live like that, they were the sweetest most well behaved kids! There were up to 60 students in each class and they were so respectful to their teacher! I was so amazed!

  1. Hey Linda here. Just wanted to write my own short note. Lindsey is a much better author so she will do most of the comments. I am still je lagged and today, Tuesday was very hard because we met a mom of some students from the slum school and she brought us to her home. We walked deep into the slums for the first time through tiny alley ways that had stagnate water in them and stepped into a very tiny rom about 10 x 10 feet. This was the home for a family of 4. It did have a wall on 2 sides but they are separated by their neighbor by only hanging blankets. We will post some pictures later. We gave the lady, only 25 some money to buy food for a few days. I felt awful that we could not do more. I have been emotional today and feel drained. It is about 5pm here and I want to take a nap before dinner. We are visiting different schools each day this week. Once again it rained all day today. I know it's hard to get your account started but please blog us, we are both home sick.

  2. Linda here,
First, Thanks Darla for being my only friend that is getting on and commenting. Tonight, Lindsey is still out going to a movie but I was tired so came back to hotel after dinner. We did out teacher training on Saturday. It went great but wore us out. Lindsey will give details later. Then we came back to our room, rushed and then left to go to a church service just on the edge of the red light district. The church has mainly women and kids that have been saved from the brothels. Very sad. Today was also non stop and I am ready to not be on a schedule. This has definitely not felt at all like a vacation.

Well, all for now as I am tired and going to bed early. I hope Lindsey will post pictures in the next 12-24 hours. Just a reminder we are 10 1/2 hours ahead of Texas and Louisiana. I am more homesick then I thought I would be but will be ok. Just worried about my Dixie.

    Love,Linda
